Friday Morning and Family

Happy sunny Friday. The weather is still cold but the heavy bitter gale winds we have had days is finally subsiding. It’s wonderful to have the sunshine blasting back through the windows, it was so windy and cold I had to keep the thermal curtains closed prior.  I don’t return to work until Monday. This morning I managed to do some catching up around the house, but still have the task of putting our holiday decorations away until next year.

Normally I would pack it up and it would go into our spare room, but that room is currently in use by one of my adult sons who has moved in temporarily last fall. With rental prices tripled over the last two years he, like many suddenly found themselves in dire straights trying to find anything affordable with one working income. Many working individuals are living in their vehicles. It’s a new reality everywhere with many families we know opting to share living accommodations. Everyone needs a home, and to feel home.

Is it easy having an adult moving in with you?, of course not! You have to have the mindset that you all are working together to help each other. I’m of the culture this is what family does, I don’t find it odd. It’s certainly made my life busier, we all work jobs, and I’m doing the cooking, cleaning, and all of the laundry for three people, but I have no complaints. The rental prices are up so high they are often more than a monthly mortgage payment. The problem is employers still pay what they pay you, it’s a no win situation.

At some point in the near future we will also have to relocate. Recently our elderly landlord suddenly passed away, he and his wife live in our building. Now there is just her left trying to tackle learning how to cope financially along with other responsibilities of running a building with tenants. I don’t see it lasting long before she opts to move in with her extended family. My grandmother used to jokingly say, "Home is where you take your teeth out." Now that I am the age she was I get it, and life is good. My husband is adding his own thoughts below in the photo!
