Small Town Life and Bald Eagles

It may be the end of January but the sun is already becoming noticeably stronger.

Spring normally digs in by mid February, we call it “mud season.” Last year we had leaf buds on the trees by the beginning of March, with the tulips and daffodils poking up in the gardens. Winter in southern New England doesn't seem to be as long of a season as in the past years.

This road winds through an area along a river that holds a seasonal nesting pair of bald eagles. Local photographers flock to the area to capture their beauty. Two days ago while traveling through here we witnessed a majestic snowy owl gliding over the highway overhead. The snow owls arrive about mid December, with most frequenting the seacoast close to the ocean.

The area we live in has been a blessing as it’s a combination of small town and busy wildlife next door. Over the years the local powers-that-be had prevented the quiet small town from over development until recently. As of my post that is all changing, new business and high end housing construction can be seen everywhere on the fringes. Progress isn’t always pretty nor welcome. The older traditional New England homes will soon be far and few between.
